LibriVox recording of Five Continental Op Stories by Dashiell Hammett.
Read in English by Winston Tharp
Before Sam Spade chased the black bird in The Maltese Falcon and Nick and Nora Charles stirred their first martinis in The Thin Man, the Continental Op walked early twentieth century San Francisco’s mean streets for the Continental Detective Agency. Dashiell Hammett used his own experiences as a Pinkerton operative to lend realistic detail to this creation. These first five stories were published in Black Mask magazine in 1923. - Summary by Winston Tharp

Subject: Very entertaining!
Subject: Very entertaining!
Hammett’s style of writing and dialogue are wry and clever and these stories move along at a good pace; very much like his Sam Spade and Thin Man stories.
...
Thankfully, his stories don’t get too gruesome but rather dwell on finding the culprit(s). Last, but certainly not least, Winston Tharp does an excellent job reading; his intonations are spot on; he should be the ‘designated reader’ of the Continental Op stories!!
